Rising damp is an issue that can affect all buildings; it is particularly a problem in older houses and is fairly slow to develop. Nearly all buildings are surrounded by natural moisture that is trying to get into the dry structure of the building. Rising damp occurs when ground water travels upwards through building materials such as brick; it may show as damp patches to the low area of the wall or a tide mark stain, this is due to the salts in the ground water. Rising damp can be detrimental to your property in a number of ways, including:
• Damage to plaster
• Degradation of your skirting boards
• Loss of insulation through the walls
• Weakening the structure of the building
• Unhealthy living conditions
Before any treatment is carried out one of our expert, fully qualified surveyors will visit you and carry out a thorough internal and external survey to identify the exact cause and extent of the damage. Rising damp can be caused by numerous factors such as poor surface drainage, it is imperative we find the cause to minimise further occurrence.
Our damp proofing treatment is widely used as it is the most accurate and cost effective method of controlling rising damp. The treatment is inserted below the level of timber flooring, in some cases walls may still remain damp and other precautionary measures may need to be taken to provide long term damp control.
Our silicone damp course injection cream suitable for brick, stone and masonry walls, it can be applied from either inside or outside.
Preparation prior to the treatment will involve the removal of skirting boards, fixings and stripping old damp plaster from the walls to ensure the chemical damp proofing course is successful. We will of course, liaise with our maintenance team to ensure that this is replaced back to its original form. It is advisable that walls injected with this treatment are left to dry out before any re-plastering can commence.
